Hi there!
My name is Fetch, your friendly galactic neighbourhood citrus enthusiast! I'm Brazilian by heritage, but I see myself as more of a citizen of the universe. I LOVE travelling, I've wondered all over the world and beyond. It was on my travels, actually, that I discovered my life's obsession. The yuzu.
When in Japan one day, I went to an onsen, (that's the japanese word for bath, it can mean a public bath, or a natural spring. I love a good soak!) and discovered there, bobbing about in the steaming water, these gorgeous sunny coloured citrus fruit. What on earth might it be? I thought. Misshapen rubber ducks? And what was that smell? Sharp and sweet at the same time. Alluring and delicious. Upon closer inspection, there seemed to be tangerine-lemons swimming on the surface of the water. What was it? What was going on? I spent hours and hours, soaking away, letting the sharp water relax my muscles. By the end of my dip I felt amazing. I had to know- what were these yellow things? Where did they come from? Are they edible? Can you put them in sparkling flavoured water?
They were the yuzu.
Originating in China, a hybrid of a mandarin and a papeda (a strange green lemon, which isn't very edible), the yuzu is a perfect fruit. Great in jams, marinades, sake, I even have a special yuzu flavour paprika in my spice cupboard! My favourite drink of all is the yuzu seltzer. Check out my seltzer page to see my favourites. I also love just browsing images of the yuzu, so check out my blog too.
Ever since that day in Japan, I've travelled the globe, spreading the news of the yuzu, and I'm glad to see it catching on (they grow it in France now!). I hope this site inspires you to get out there and try some delicious citrus for yourself, trust me, it'll be your new favourite thing!
